I had my baby shower on Saturday afternoon which was lovely. I have some pretty special friends and they brought me some lovely gifts including some bath goodies for me, a lovely baby sleeping bag, a baby journal and my dream nappy bag from The Pink Lining company. See pictures below :) They also all gave me their favourite childhood book which was such a sweet idea as I love to read and plan to read to baby a lot. We played games and gossiped and ate lots of yummy food and I had a wonderful afternoon. Big love.
I also had all my family over the next day as there was a lots of food leftover so the flat saw a fair bit of action over the weekend. After everyone had left Sunday I ran a nice warm bath for me and Sam and we relaxed. About 10 minutes after we'd got out we realised our boiler had decided to die which wasn't very relaxing. Fast-forward to today and it's still not fixed and we've been advised to buy a new one. Awesome. Boilers are bloody expensive :( not the sort of outlay you need a month before a baby is due but I'm trying to cling on to the positive that at least it didn't happen next month with a new baby in the house because it would be very cold for her :(
We have a couple of portable heaters and we're sort of washing in the sink using kettle water so it's deal-able but think we will be visiting someone with a shower tonight! I'm missing my bath a lot to help relieve back pain but my hot water bottle will have to do! Sam is on top of it, we need to get the most reasonable deal as we're not exactly rich at the moment/ever. I'm very lucky to have him sort everything out for us. Feels like a kick in the teeth though, we save so much. Never really go out and spend and it just seems like there's always something taking our money away :( oh well. All part of being a grown up I guess.
Baby seems all good. My last midwife appointment said I was measuring fine again. I'm feeling quite big and uncomfortable but apparently I'm going to stop growing for a couple of weeks now. I'm nearly 35 weeks which is pretty far along; at 37 weeks she could appear at any time! Need to pack my hospital bag really... I go on Maternity leave next Thursday so I guess I will have a lot of time for that then! Most people say your first baby rarely comes early but you just never know! . I feel I can concentrate on relaxing and maybe doing some labour preparation once I'm on maternity. Yoga, breathing exercises etc. I brought some raspberry leaf tea last night. Haven't had one yet but might start having one a day as it's meant to help strengthen your uterus or something? Can't hurt to try.
Our ante-natal class this week was on pain relief so was useful for the most part. I really don't want to use a lot of pain relief other than water and some gas and air but I guess you don't know how you'll feel on the day. I'm really feeling positive about labour though. Looking forward to it. We have a tour of the Wexham birth Centre Sunday so that will be reassuring to know where everything is. I hope it's as nice as the Wycombe one.
Side effects still the same really. Aggressive back ache, bit of heartburn, breathlessness, my feet are starting to feel a bit sore at the end of the day. Aside from the back ache everything is good though. Her movements can be pretty sharp now I guess she is getting big and strong. She gets hiccups quite a lot which was adorable at first and now kinda annoying! I took a video of some big kicks that I need to figure out how to upload it on here. Also I had a VERY weird craving this week. Googled it and it isn't completely unusual but it is fairly embarrassing... might as well share it though. But don't judge... I really like to get a sponge, get it all wet under the tap and then chew on it. WTF?!
